Maryhill Maryhill 359 Maryhill Road Glasgow —The tenements construction along New City Rd (now Maryhill Rd) between Raebery Street and the junction with Garsube Road began in the late 1880's. The use of red sandstone confirms that they belong to the late 19th and/or early 20th Century construction period.

Cameronia Cameronia Leaving Scotland —Migrating to Australia was probable always a considered option when Joe Stewart and Mary Honnan married in 1940. The catalyst that turned the migration option into a reality was the Assisted Passage to Australia program that was first announces in 1945.

Ginninderra Ginninderra GINNINDERRA 1950 — When the Stewart’s arrived in Canberra in 1950 demand for housing far exceed supply. Hostel accommodation was available but it was not chosen. Instead, the family occupied an old cottage in the farming district of Ginninderra, about 12kms from Canberra.

Narrabundah Ginninderra NARRABUNDAH 1951 —Prefabricated homes were built in southern suburb of Narrabundah between 1947 and 1952. Constructed in in Sydney and transported to Canberra these houses were explicitly designated for the “workers” and became known as the Narrabundah Prefabs.

Ginninderra O'Connor O'Connor 1953 —As part of the solution to the critical post war housing shortage in Canberra 200 houses originally constructed at Tocumwal in NSW for the US Army Air Corps during WW2 were re-erected in the ACT from about 1947. It was into one of these houses at 6 Way Street in O'Connor that the family moved to in early 1953.

Curtin Curtin Curtin 1968 — The introduction of an open land auction system in Canberra meant that prices were determined by demand and it was in this setting that Joe and Mary started to look for a suitable block of land for their long-term goal of building their own home.

Curtin Boats Boat Building Heritage — Irish Census data for Rosscorkey Island list the occupation of James Stuart and his son Francis as boat builders. Another of James’s sons John went to Boston in 1883 where he established a boat building business, John Stuart & Co.
