French Family

DEC 09: I love the internet! As a result of this website, I have met many new cousins from various branches and they have all been great in helping me improve the family information with new facts and photos!! I have tried to include as much of the updates I have received, however, all information might not be included. Thanks to Patti Jeffries for the great Crittenden/Jeffries information to include new photos of my grandmother and various other relatives. I have had to move from one computer to another so there might be some broken links. Please let me know what you find so I can make corrections. I am really trying to include all sources of information so please let me also know the source of any submitted information. I hope to travel to Boston and New Hampshire with my daughter this summer to do additional research.

MAR08: Much has changed since my last update. I have retired from the Army and am now a full-time sports photographer. I have been very slow to update the website and I apologize. If you check to see if your update was made and find that it hasn't been, please send me a note to remind me of what was supposed to be added, deleted, or changed. I recently had a chance to visit my mother and two of her brothers were also there. I had not seen my uncles since I was very little so it was great to catch up. Of course I asked many questions and scanned in all the photos they brought.  Those pictures have been added.Would also like to thank Phillip Bedient and Marg Pratt for the great information and photos on various ancestors. Please keep the information coming and am so pleased to meet so many cousins.

DEC06: The majority of the updates are for the STARK family. I was able to travel to upstate New York with my mother-in-law to do some research and take some photos in the various cemeteries. I will also shortly be adding FRENCH family info as a result of contact with a "new cousin" who has provided some great information.

JAN 06 Update: Happy New Year...The major change to the site since OCT 05 has been the addition of information regarding my STAPLES line. I would like to thank Fred Staples for providing a tremendous amount of information. I am in the process of validating the information, but wanted to post it for others to use in the meantime.

OCT 05 Update: My mother was recently going through some of her papers and found a typewritten family history provided by her grandfather,William A. Staples. It provides a tremendous amount of information on his line.As a result, I have now added the following lines to my research, BAGLEY, LAMPHERE, MILLETT, and STONE.  As I update my research, I will add to the website.

AUG 05: I have completed my Army Battalion Command tour and have been transferred to the East Coast where I hope to have much more time to resume my family history research. Please bare with me as I continue to include all new information!! If you know you sent me an item and do not see it, please email me as a reminder. I recently returned from a trip to Danvers, MA where I was able to do research on the HILTON, STAPLES, and REMON family lines and visit the cemeteries and houses associated with them located in the local area.

I've added Civil War information about BG Winsor B. French, Walton W. French, John Quincy French, Charles French, and William French. Also included information about the Rogers Family and more information about George V. Plane.

My focus on the Hilton Family is from 1765 when Amos Hilton left Massachusetts for Nova Scotia to 1895 when Leaman Hilton left Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and settled in Danvers, MA. If you have any information pertaining to the Hiltons of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia during this time period, I'm very interested.

If you have information to include or correct, or just have a comment, please email Rick French. Also, if you find a bad link for a document or photo, please email me and let me know.As I continue to add items and get organized, I sometimes inadvertently change something without knowing it.  My goal is to make this website as comprehensive as possible. If you have information you would like to share with other family members, please send me an email with the information. Reminder....when posting items to the website, for those family members still living, all that is posted is their name. All other items are hidden in the database. If you do not have the ability to scan in an item, I do and will be more than happy to scan it in for you and then return the original. My interest in genealogy was fostered by my uncle, Jack M. Hilton after seeing the work he had done on the HILTON Family. In addition, it was after talking with my father, Larry L. French, that I really became curious about my past, because we really did not know too much about the FRENCH line...and so it began. I would like to acknowledge cousins, Roz McLelland and her father, Mr. Gordon B. West, for providing a tremendous amount of information on the FRENCH surname and all the information pertaining to the WEST, and ROGERS surname, Debbi Plane, for providing information pertaining to the PLANE surname, Patty and Ruth Jeffries for assisting with the JEFFRIES surname, and Tillie (Tillisty) Apken for providing wonderful photos of her grandfather Edward Nelson French and my great-great grandfather, Benjamin Joslyn French and other assorted familymembers . Also, to Bob Morrow Jr., for information pertaining to BG French andthe 77th New York Infantry. This information has been uploaded to the Roots WebWorldConnect Project (database frenchrl86) and GenCircles. I have been receiving a tremendous amount of assistance with both the KNAPP and STARK lines from various family members. I would especially like to thank Curtis Irons for assisting with the STARK line!! I recently received a tremendous amount of info on the HEMMINGWAY line and am in the process of adding it as well.
